Street environment improvements in St Peter's & Canalside and St Mary's & St James' wards
We want to make street improvements in St Peter's & Canalside and St Mary's & St James' wards
Our public consultation on how we propose to improve three street spaces in this area will run from Monday 15 September to Sunday 5 October 2025.
Please see this page for our proposals and how you can tell us your feedback, and read about other ways we are looking to make improvements in this neighbourhood.
How we want to improve streets and spaces in this area
As part of our efforts to create a greener, healthier and more child-friendly borough, Islington Council is looking to make improvements to the street environment in this area, with support from your local St Peter’s & Canalside and St Mary’s & St James’ ward councillors.
We introduced the St Peter’s Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN), first as a trial in 2020 and later made permanent in 2022 after consultation, to create cleaner, less congested and more people-friendly streets in the area. Now we want to enhance the existing measures, creating a greener, more welcoming and accessible place for everyone, as well as supporting local businesses.
We recently (June-July 2025) asked for your views on how we could improve public spaces at St Peter's Street and Packington Street/ Prebend Street. We will use the feedback you gave us to help us develop designs for these locations, and once we have designs we will ask for your feedback in a public consultation. Find out more about this.
In the meantime, we would like to hear your views on some other proposals we are consulting on in the area:
