Islington Greener Together

Islington Council launched Round Two of the Islington Greener Together programme in February 2024, inviting residents, businesses, and community groups, with support from their neighbours, to submit ideas to green publicly accessible spaces in their neighbourhoods. With the support of the council, local people can bring their ideas to life and make their streets greener. One of these streets is Linton Street, where local people have told us that they would like to introduce greening at the junction with New North Road.

Linton Street

The project site is located at the junction of Linton Street and New North Road, within the St Mary's and St James' Ward.

Co-design workshop

We held a workshop on Wednesday 22 October 2025. During the workshop, attendees shared their ideas for where and what types of changes they would like to see in the area. The suggestions made will be used to help shape the initial proposal for Linton Street.

Initial design proposal

Our initial design proposes the following on Linton Street:

  • New in-ground planting beds, joined with the existing planting beds, to enhance biodiversity and contribute to the overall greening of the street.
  • Widening of the entrance to the cycle path between Linton Street and New North Road.
  • Creation of a new cycle path through the proposed in-ground planting beds, connecting Linton Street with New North Road.
  • Introduction of a new tree in the central in‑ground planting bed.
  • Introduction of new double yellow lines and kerb blips on New North Road to prevent vehicles from blocking access to or exit from the cycle path.

Feedback period

Once the initial design proposal for Linton Street was developed, it was shared online via the project website and made available at the Islington South Library. Local people could provide feedback on the design between Monday 12 January 2026 and Sunday 25 January 2026 through an online survey on the project website or via hard copies available at the Islington South Library .

Additionally, an in-person engagement session was held at the Popham and Cummings Community Centre on Wednesday 21 January 2026, allowing attendees to share their feedback on the design proposals and ask officers questions. The feedback from both the survey and the in-person engagement session was reviewed and considered in the development of the final design.

Next steps

Following the feedback period (Monday 12 January 2026 – Sunday 25 January 2026), we will use the feedback received to help inform any changes to the final design proposal for Linton Street. Once the design has been finalised, we will aim to begin delivery of the proposal in spring 2026.
