Consultation has concluded
Following a review of the access guides offer in Islington,to best respond to residents’ needs we allocated additional funding to improve the service.
Access guides are online resources that provide information about a range of accessibility featuresof local venues, including supermarkets, shops, restaurants, cafés, gyms, community venues and public buildings.
They often include details around step-free access, accessible toilets, parking, seating, hearing support systems, quiet operatinghours, and more. Such accessibility information allows residents, and in particular disabled, Blind and Partially Sighted, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and neurodiverse residents as well as people with long-term health conditions, to prepare for journeys to and throughout the venues that they visit.
Our ‘clickability’ data confirms that 9,000 individual users accessed guides of Islington venues between August 2023 and August 2024 via our provider’s website, which evidences what an important resource they are to Islington’s residents and visitors.

Based on an online survey, a review of the previous contract and close collaboration between council services, we allocated additional funding to improve the access guides service.
Better quality photos and map services will be secured over the contract period of 3 years (2025-2028). More frequent site visits to the listed venues will take place to ensure that online accessibility guides are up to date. We are also funding adding a number of parks and community venues to the database to make sure that accessibility information is easily available.
