Current Status

We are currently proceeding with the installation of EV charge points following our earlier engagement and decision. Please check the table below for more details

About the engagement

The council is committed to improving air quality by making our roads greener and healthier. To help achieve this goal and support the shift to low emission vehicles for essential journeys, we have installed over 600 charge points across the borough.

Replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles will help to improve air quality by reducing harmful emissions such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide.

What we are proposing

To keep pace with the growing number of electric vehicles and demand for charge points, we plan to roll out a further 67electric vehicle dual connection fast charge sites across the borough by March 2026. This includes the creation of two electric vehicle spaces in the existing parking bay at each site.

These fast charge points (22kw) are quick and convenient for electric car users to charge their vehicles at locations across the borough.

The proposed locations are shown on the map and listed in the table below on this page.

How we identified the charge point locations

Many of the proposed charge points are located where resident requests have been received and there is an identified need for additional infrastructure.

The process we follow depends on the network operator and type of charge point. However, when investigating locations for new charge points, we have considered a wide range of matters such as:

  • The accessibility of the proposed electric vehicle charging bays
  • Residual footway widths for pedestrian movement around the proposed charge point
  • Local build environment including heritage considerations
  • Local demand for electric vehicle charging
  • Conforming to regulatory electrical safety standards and requirements.

About TotalEnergies

TotalEnergies will be installing, running, and maintaining all the new charge points that are agreed to after the engagement process.

Additional information

*The council is also seeking views for a proposal to install a bike hangar on Bewdley Street. Bike hangars are on-street, secure and weather resistant cycle parking storage units for residents, accessed by using a key. They can store up to six cycles inside. Introducing secure bike hangars will help residents to store cycles safely on the street. Bike hangars are located on the road in existing parking bays (normally equivalent to one car parking space). No Designated Disabled Bays are repurposed. To find out more about bike hangars or apply to rent a bike hangar space, please visit this website: Bike parking on a street | Islington Council. Please contact us if you wish to make comments on the proposals by filling in our survey or by email to: bikehangarconsultation@islington.gov.uk.

** At Lloyd Baker Street we are proposing two new electric vehicle bays outside Riceyman House to replace the three existing electric vehicle bays opposite number 51 which we propose to reinstate as permit holder only bays.
