Finsbury Wellbeing Campus
We want to create a borough where everyone has the equal opportunity to live happy, healthy lives.
A big part of this is ensuring that local people have access to healthcare, green spaces and places to exercise.
That’s why we are investing in the Finsbury Leisure Centre area to create a hub of wellbeing where everyone can enjoy open spaces, connect with their community and access the leisure centre and a brand-new medical centre.
Over the past few years, we have been engaging with local community groups and residents as well as businesses to understand what really matters to local people and how we can improve the Finsbury Leisure Centre area.
To help develop our plans we are working with Alliance Leisure, who have contracted Bellrock, Etec, Holmes Miller and 3BM to help shape our new wellbeing campus. Our plans cover three main areas; the leisure centre, medical centre and public space.
The plans include:
Refurbished and more accessible leisure facilities – meaning more people can connect through sport and improve their health.
A new medical centre – meaning a dedicated local space where people can get the support they need.
A new multi-use games area (MUGA) - increasing the facilities for outdoor games and activities.
Improvements to Radnor Street Gardens.
Safer, greener, and more welcoming open spaces – this means a more welcoming space, natural planting and areas for communities to connect.
Better connections between local facilities to help improve residents’ wellbeing – improving connectiveness and accessibility so local people can easily access what they need.
The goal is to offer better facilities for everyone and support a healthier Islington.
Come and hear about our plans
Following several sessions with local people back in November 2025 we are now ready to present proposed plans. It will be an opportunity to meet the project team, see the plans and give your views on how we can make the most of the public spaces.
Our goal is to improve the public space and increase the green space in the area. To allow this we are considering moderately decreasing the size of two football pitches. We have come up with several options to try to reduce the impact to the pitches.
We would like to present the plans to you, and gather your views as we consider the next phase.
