Update Friday 25 April 2025
The council has made the decision to withdraw the plans to redevelop Finsbury Leisure Centre site, due to significant economic uncertainty and after listening to feedback from local residents.
The risk of the project has grown significantly due to economic challenges, including rising construction costs, inflation and global trade tariffs.
The plans to build around 200 homes, a new leisure centre and medical centre will not go ahead. Instead, we will be:
investing in modernising the existing leisure centre
retaining and improving the sports pitches, including the football pitches – making them more accessible and inclusive
considering a new neighbourhood health hub
seeking to build more genuinely affordable housing elsewhere in the borough.
Thank you to everyone who gave their feedback to help shape these plans. This feedback will continue to shape our investment in the existing leisure facilities and local area.
