Transforming the Finsbury Leisure Centre site
We have been working with the community since 2017 to explore how we can improve the Finsbury Leisure Centre site, bring it up to date, and deliver wider benefits for the local community.
Our proposals
This project will be the biggest investment in this area’s public services in a generation - to help build a more equal Islington.
Our proposals will include:
- 100 council homes with 98 more homes for sale to help pay for them
- A brand-new leisure centre including four 5/6-a-side rooftop football pitches.
- A modern, purpose-built home for the NHS City Road Medical Centre.
- New and improved public spaces including a publicly accessible courtyard garden, safer, greener streets and ‘play on the way’ features for children.
Following our latest public engagement over the summer, the planning application has now been submitted and validated by the Local Planning Authority. You can view the planning application in full on Islington's Planning Portal (reference number: P2024/2512/FUL).
The council’s planning team is now running a statutory consultation, asking for comments on the application. Please note that for your comments to be considered by the planning team and Planning Committee, they must be submitted via the planning portal and not to the Finsbury Leisure Centre project team.
