Islington Council, led by your Junction ward councillors, Cllr Janet Burgess, Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz and Cllr Sheila Chapman, has teamed up with environmental charity Groundwork to improve the old ball court on your estate and transform it into an attractive community space, with planting, play equipment and planters for community gardening.
We want to ensure the improvements meet the needs and priorities of the community. With your help we can create an attractive space for you and your neighbours to enjoy.TheThriving Neighbourhoods and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding will be used to improve this community space. The first stage of the consultation has now ended. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
Pop-up conversation stall
A pop-up stall was open on the 7th of June from 3pm – 5pm, where resident were invited to share their ideas and hopes for the space. During the day residents were able to highlight what changes they would like to see on the play space.
The next steps
Based on the feedback given by residents, the initial designs will focus on a community gardening growing and play space. The new space will have a natural boundary between food growing and community play area. The space will include more greenery, biodiverse planting and seating. The design team will be developing a sketch design based on your feedback which we will share with you in the second stage consultation. We are aiming to start the consultation spring next year, subject to funding being approved from the Thriving Neighbourhoods.
