Tree removal Notification:
Following consultation with residents of Hermitage House, Islington Council’s Tree Service are looking to arrange the removal of the Leyland Cypress located to the rear of Hermitage House, Islington, N1.
Reasoning
In line with Section 14 of Islington Council’s Tree Policy (Felling and Pruning), this tree is not considered suitable for its current location for the following reasons:
The tree is located approximately 2.5 metres from the building, which is closer than is generally considered appropriate for this species.
As a conifer, it provides extremely limited natural light to most homes within the block throughout the year.
The species has high water demands and, due to its close proximity to the building, may pose a risk of damage to nearby structures over time.
Tree replacement
Because this location is not suitable for planting another large conifer such as the existing Leyland cypress, the site will be replanted with a more appropriate tree species.
Replanting will take place either before 1 April 2026, or by 1 April 2027, depending on the level of feedback received during this notification process.
