Conclusion of consultation and decision

After review of the feedback provided during this project, it was determined that the removal of this tree was appropriate. The location for the replacement of this tree is actively being sought in preparation the 2026/27 winter planting programme.

Duty to consult

Under Section 115 of the Environment Act 2021, it is the Council’s obligation to consult members of the public regarding the removal of any street tree that is not dead and/or dangerous.

Proposal

Islington Council would like your feedback on the proposed removal of a Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’) situated outside 98 Offord Road, N1 1PF to mitigate an association with damage to property. Evidence has been supplied to the London Borough of Islington Tree Service that shows an association between the tree and property damages.

Alternative solutions

Alternative solutions were explored, the tree was crown reduced during the 2023/24 fiscal year to manage its water extraction potential but unfortunately this action had little effect on the soil movement.

Tree replacement

Dependent upon the outcome of this consultation our tree planting team will look for a suitable tree planting site as close to the original as possible.
