Commitment to Actions Update

Community Safety 

• Community Safety will set up a pilot monthly drop-in session for face-to-face and online advice sessions. We will review this service in three months’ time. Sessions are taking place in person and online. Use this link to sign up and discuss concerns with the Community Safety Team.
• Community Safety will contact our partners including internal teams such as Partnerships Team, housing Estates and youth services as well as Voluntary Sector groups Youth Locality Groups in Tollington with a call out to invite Community Safety/Police to planned fun days. Community Safety are attending a total of 47 events over the summer period, with more in the pipeline. Events taking place are focused around the aim to reduce summer violence, with a particular focus on events for young people taking place across the borough. We will be attending events organised by Standing Together (please see the link here - Summerversity | Free activities for young people) as well as events organised by Islington Council and partners.
• Community Safety will commit to newsletter at the end of every hotspot/commit to community event for every hotspot (which can be wide ranging including weapon sweeps/drop ins/site visits). Newsletters have been distributed to hotspot locations over the summer period, with more upcoming newsletters to be distributed over this period. The newsletters include positive news stories, updates and a feedback form in newsletters.
• Civil Protection's Neighbourhood Patrol Team will provide more active patrols for anti-social behaviour (ASB). Residents are encouraged to report online via the new system found at islington.gov.uk/ReportASB . The team has expanded with an additional 10 officers recruited so far since April 2025. A total of 164 visits have been made to Tollington Ward in April, May and June.
• Community Safety will conduct Environmental Visual Audits (EVAs) in hotspot locations. A total of 15 EVA’s are being carried out over the summer period and Community Safety are continuing to review actions from previous EVA’s, such as applying for temporary CCTV, looking at additional lighting and discussing design changes with the planning teams and councillors.

Police 

• Police have committed to identifying and securing CCTV, where they can, to meet identified and evidenced need. They have secured a camera on Axminster Road and are applying for more in Tollington. Police have installed CCTV on Manor Gardens and Axminster Road, with more applications for CCTV in the pipelines.
• Police have invested in kits for children’s activities in Tollington and are planning fun days in the summer, as well as delivering crime talks to local schools.
• Police have combined ward officers from other locations to increase patrols across Islington.
• Police to work with the council to share positive news stories and updates. The SNT have been providing updates via the Community Safety Team newsletters, as well as at Ward Panels. The Met have also introduced a new platform called ‘Met Engage’, where you can get to know your local officers, help shape how they police your local area, and have direct access to key information and advice. It isn’t just a platform for the police to tell you what they’re doing in your area, it is an opportunity for you to tell them what is concerning you most so they can take action on the things that truly matter to you. www.metengage.co.uk
• Police continue to organise or join activities for young people. Police are planning an Emergency Service Day for example.

Public Health

• Public Health will continue to ensure that Islington’s drug and alcohol services are delivering responsive outreach in partnership with Community Safety and street outreach colleagues. Ongoing
• Public Health will attend community events and festivals where they are available. Ongoing
• Public Health will feed back to residents by contributing to any newsletters or communications we agree strategically. Ongoing
• Public Health are currently seeking professional, service user and resident feedback on the current drug and alcohol service offer and have published the survey on Let’s Talk Islington. Complete and informing service development.
• Public Health will promote relevant community events to residents and to service partners, including Streets Fest, the annual festival for people experiencing homelessness. Ongoing (awaiting confirmation of Street Fest date, usually September)

Outreach 

• Outreach will feedback to residents where they can. Outreach work closely with Community Safety to share positive news stories via the newsletters in hotspot locations.
• Outreach will attend community events and festivals where they are available. Over the summer period, outreach will attend events with Community Safety to discuss the work they are doing to support people sleeping rough and those that are street active.
• Outreach have committed to improving the wellbeing of street population in Islington through the efforts of the newly opened Street Population hub in Tollington. We have secured additional funding to continue this scheme in the short term. We will look for further long-term funding. Further funding has been secured from Public Health for a further 18 months to continue the hub.
• Islington Council have secured funding for the Street Population Women’s complex needs worker for another 3 years. Outreach are currently recruiting for this role which will provide them with some much-needed resource to conduct more outreach in the community.
• Outreach commit to working with partners to ensure that we are reaching diverse groups, such as VIA, Better Lives and the Police. We have been doing some health focused work in the past 6 months to address peoples physical health needs and homelessness. Many people are seeing a dentist for the first time for years and have access to the GP and a nurse, due to the hub. Benefits support at the hub has also supported people to stop begging as they are now receiving an income.
