Our consultation was open between 11 November to 2 December and is now closed. We are reviewing your feedback in order to decide whether and how to implement the scheme. We will provide further updates in due course.

As part of our ongoing work to create a greener, safer and more welcoming borough, Islington Council is looking to make improvements to the car parking and bin area on Pauntley Street, with the joint support of your local Junction and Hillrise ward councillors.

Local people have reported repeated incidents of antisocial behaviour at this site, particularly fly-tipping, which can make the space feel neglected and unwelcoming. We installed a CCTV camera at the site earlier in 2025 to help address this issue.

Through previous engagement on the project to install a “green screen” nearby on Pauntley Street which we consulted on in 2022, multiple residents also told us they’d like to see the space improved. Popular suggestions included new trees and greenery, a green wall with climbing plants, a wall mural, and improved bin facilities.

We would now like to hear your views on our proposed design to make the space feel more welcoming, accessible, greener and discourage antisocial behaviour.

Our design proposes the following:

• Relocating the waste and recycling bins to the northern end of the space and placing them in enclosed units to help discourage fly-tipping.
• Introducing two new areas of planting beds and a new street tree to enhance biodiversity, improve sustainable drainage and make the space greener.
• Climbing plants along a section of the back wall of the car park to enhance the visual appeal of the space and soften its hard edges.
• Resurfacing the space with fresh tarmac to make it smoother and more attractive.
• Extending the existing footway at the southern end to provide a safer and more accessible route for people walking across the car park entrance.
• Creating an opening in the raised edge of the space to improve access for people walking and wheeling, including easier access for residents to reach the bins from their properties.
• Removing three redundant bollards to declutter and create a more accessible footway space.
• Upgrading the existing disabled parking bay to enhance accessibility and ensure full compliance with current standards.
• A potential wall mural to brighten the space and add visual interest, which could be developed further in collaboration with the local community.
• Reconfiguring the existing parking layout to accommodate the proposed changes, involving a reduction of three car parking spaces.

We wrote to local residents and businesses to ask for their views on our design proposals between 11 November and 2 December 2025, in the following ways:

Next steps

Following the consultation, we are using the feedback received to help inform a decision on whether to and how to proceed with the proposed improvements to the space on Pauntley Street, including any changes to the design.
