Project update

The refurbishment works are now complete at Mildmay Library and the library was reopened on Monday 5 January. The works included redecoration of the ground floor, the installation of new furniture and improvements to the library forecourt.

What we're doing

We’re refurbishing Mildmay Library to make it a more welcoming space for everyone.

The refurbishment will include repainting and recarpeting the ground floor, the installation of new furniture, and improvements to the library forecourt.

These upgrades are designed to enhance the library for everyone and create a more welcoming and comfortable environment for the local community.

This project is part of our wider investment in community spaces across Islington, helping to support wellbeing, inclusion, and opportunities for local people.

What’s changing?

The planned improvements include:

  • Repainting the ground floor
  • The installation of new carpet on the ground floor
  • The installation of new shelving, seating, and desks
  • Improvements to the library forecourt, including new signage, paving repairs, tree planting, and the installation of new cycle stands and seating

What to expect

Mildmay Library will be closed from Monday 13 October for approximately 12 weeks whilst the works take place.

During this period, there will be construction works taking place, and we appreciate your patience while the improvements are carried out.

The nearest alternative libraries are:

  • South Library, 115-117 Essex Road, N1 2SL
  • Central Library, 2 Fieldway Crescent, N5 1PF
