Islington Greener Together

Islington Council launched Round Two of the Islington Greener Together programme in February 2024, inviting residents, businesses, and community groups, with support from their neighbours, to submit ideas to green publicly accessible spaces in their neighbourhoods. With the support of the council, local people can bring their ideas to life and make their streets greener. One of these locations is Marriott Road, where we have been asked to introduce greening on Marriott Road close to the junction with Tollington Park.

Marriott Road

The project site is located on Marriott Road close to the junction with Tollington Park, within the Tollington Ward.

Feedback Period

The initial design proposal for Marriott Road was shared online via the project website and made available to view at Islington North Library. Local people could provide feedback on the design between Monday 16 March 2026 and Sunday 29 March 2026 through an online survey on the project website or a paper survey that was available at Islington North Library.

Additionally, an in-person engagement session was held at the Lower Hall at St Mark's Church on Wednesday 25 March 2026, inviting attendees to share their feedback on the design proposals and ask officers questions. The feedback from both the survey and the in-person engagement session was reviewed and considered in the development of the final design.

Marriott Road design

The final design for Marriott Road (Figure 1 below) will create new in-ground planting beds on either side of Marriott Road close to the junction with Tollington Park, to enhance biodiversity and contribute to the overall greening of the street.

Works to deliver the project

We have now finalised the schedule of construction works to deliver the project. The construction works will be carried out on Marriott Road from Monday 15 June 2026 and will take up to one week. The traffic management plan (Figure 2 below) during the works will involve the following temporary measures:

  • The project work site will be located at the junction of Marriott Road and Tollington Park and will be hoarded off during the works. Pedestrian access to all properties will be maintained throughout.
  • A temporary footway will be created on Tollington Park and Marriott Road to ensure pedestrians can make their normal journeys without obstruction.
  • For the duration of the works the area where Marriott Road meets Tollington Park will be closed to vehicles. Please see Figure 3 below for the traffic diversion route.

We apologise for any inconvenience that the construction works may cause, and we would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation during this time. If you have any queries or questions, please contact us at IGTproject@islington.gov.uk.
