Junction Road safety improvements
Consultation has concluded
Following consultation, we have now implemented this scheme.
Consultation on Junction Road safety improvement proposals
Islington Council proposed safety improvement proposals on Junction Road (at the junctions of Vorley Road, Bredgar Road, Brookside Road and Bickerton Road).
A key aim of these proposals was to reduce road danger within the local environment to make it safer for all road users. This is part of our wider aim to reduce road collisions and incidents to make Islington's roads safer as we work towards the Mayor's Vision Zero for London strategy and Islington's Transport Strategy (2020-2041).
Our plans included:
- Widening the pavement on Brookside Road by the junction with Junction Road to make the crossing distance shorter for people walking and wheeling and reduce vehicle speeds turning in and out of the junction
- Resurfacing the pavement on Junction Road (junction with Bredgar Road) and providing more greening in the area, with new green beds and planters
- Proposed parking changes on Junction Road
Plans of our Brookside Road and Bredgar Road proposals are shown below on this page, and you can also download all proposals under the Documents menu.

Your feedback on these proposals
Our public consultation on these proposals ran from 16 December 2024 to 13 January 2025.
We received 22 responses to the consultation. Thank you for all responses we received.
Respondents were ask to tell us their positive or negative experiences of the scheme location. Some frequently made comments were:
- Danger crossing the road due to the wide road, fast and busy traffic, and failure to stop at crossings
- Danger walking and cycling due to fast and busy traffic, and parked or manoeuvring vehicles
- Uneven and/or narrow pavements
- Rubbish/litter
Respondents were asked to comment on the proposals. A majority of responses were fully supportive or partially supportive of the proposals, particularly expressing general support and support for new greenery.
- A number of concerns and suggestions were raised. Commonly raised comments were:
- Concern that proposals do not address uneven or cluttered pavements
- Concern that proposals do not adequately address safety for people cycling
- Opposition to loss of parking
- Suggestion for more trees
- Suggestion for further measures to slow traffic speeds and fix the road surface.
After taking into account all responses, the council decided to proceed to implement the scheme, which is now complete.
