Islington Greener Together

Islington Council launched Round Two of the Islington Greener Together programme in February 2024, inviting residents, businesses, and community groups, with support from their neighbours, to submit ideas to green publicly accessible spaces in their neighbourhoods. With the support of the council, local people can bring their ideas to life and make their streets greener. One of these streets is Hazellville Road, where local people have told us that they would like to introduce greening outside of the local shopping parade between Dresden Road and Cheverton Road.

Hazellville Road

The project site is located outside of the local shopping parade between Dresden Road and Cheverton Road, within the Hillrise Ward.

Co-design workshop

In May 2025 we held a co-design workshop, which local people could register to attend. During the workshop attendees took part in a design exercise, where they shared their ideas for where and what types of changes they would like to see take place on Hazellville Road.

Feedback period

Once the initial design proposal for Hazellville Road was developed, it was shared online via the project website and made available at the Archway Library. Local people could provide feedback on the design between Monday 8 September 2025 and Sunday 21 September 2025 through an online survey on the project website or via hard copies available at the Archway Library.

Additionally, an in-person engagement session was held at the St Mary's Hornsey Rise church hall on Wednesday 17 September 2025, allowing attendees to share their feedback on the design proposals and ask officers questions. The feedback from both the survey and the in-person engagement session was reviewed and considered in the development of the final design.

Hazellville Road final design

The final design for Hazellville Road includes the following:

  • Widening of the pavement outside of 83 to 87 Hazellville Road to create additional space for customers and local people when visiting the local shopping parade or passing through the area.
  • The creation of two in-ground planting beds with the lower bed incorporating SuDS, totalling 9.1 square metres featuring a variety of plant species chosen to provide year-round colour and interest, while supporting local biodiversity, particularly pollinating insects.
  • New seating to provide an opportunity to rest for those visiting the local shopping parade, as well as for people passing through the area.
  • Installation of one cargo cycle stand, to support active travel to and from the area.
  • To deliver the above changes, the removal of two parking spaces is required.

Works to implement the improvements

We have finalised the delivery of the in-ground planting bed, and seating. The cargo cycle stand is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026.
