Islington Council is delivering improvements to the large green space behind Turnbull, Strang and Price House on Cumming Estate. This project will transform the space into an attractive community area with new planting, additional fencing/gates and picnic tables. This project has been made possible thanks to local Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding allocated by your local ward councillors: Cllr Saiqa Pandor, Cllr Hannah McHugh and Cllr Joseph Croft.

What we have done so far

In February 2025, a resident engagement event was held at Popham and Cumming Community Centre, to collect residents' feedback on the council's initial ideas for the space. Since then, we have engaged further with the newly formed TRA, and refined the plans based on feedback received. Thank you to everyone who has shared comments on the project so far!

What changes are we proposing?

The latest proposals create different areas for different activities such as gardening, leisure, and dog walking. Landscaping and planting will be sued to create pleasant environments for residents while also promoting biodiversity. The plan includes:

  • New planting, trees and landscaping
  • A dedicated space for residents to garden
  • New picnic benches
  • New fencing to help define the different spaces
  • Bins to help keep the space tidy and clean

What has changed from our original plans

Based on your feedback so far, we have made several changes to the designs:

  • To help manage the use of the green space, we are now proposing to plant new hedges along the existing fence line at the entrance to the space between Price House and Strang House. The hedge line will act as both a barrier and a greening improvement.
  • Within the main green space itself, we are proposing to introduce bow top fencing to create separate spaces which are intended primarily for different activities, for example relaxing, gardening and dog walking.
  • In addition, the proposals to introduce play equipment to the green space have been removed from the plan.
