Have your say on our proposals to improve road safety on St Paul’s Place
As part of our commitment to make Islington a greener and healthier borough, we want to introduce measures to make the junction of St Paul’s Place and St Paul’s Road safer.
What are we doing?
We are proposing to implement a side road entry treatment at the junction of St Paul’s Road and St Paul’s Place. The proposed measures are:
A raised junction table at the entry to St Paul’s Road. This will involve raising the road surface to be level with the footway and changing the road surface from tarmac to paving blocks.
Narrowing the junction from 7.8m to 6.7m
Implementing two new areas of greening either side of St Paul’s Place. To do this, we are proposing to reduce the space available to park by approximately 4 metres on each side of the road.
Why are we doing this?
Between 2017 and 2024 there were four serious collisions at this junction, and there have been several other slight collisions. The proposals here will:
encourage drivers to reduce their vehicle speeds and turn cautiously
allow people walking or wheeling to cross the junction of St Paul’s Place more easily
make St Paul’s Place greener and more resilient to future flood risks
Design proposal

The council proposes to implement changes to parking bays on a permanent basis under a Traffic Management Order (TMO), which is subject to a statutory consultation. You can object or make comments on the TMO by:
Write by post to: Islington Council, Environment, 1 Cottage Road, London, N7 8TP
The objection period for the TMO statutory consultation closes on Friday 12 December 2025. Any formal objection that is submitted may become a public document and could be published in an anonymised format.
What happens next
Once the consultation is concluded, we will review all responses and decide whether to implement the proposals. While it will not be possible to reply to responses individually, all comments will be considered. Updates will be published on this page.
