Islington Council has teamed up with outdoor playground specialists, Active Landscapes, to improve St Luke’s Playground on your estate and transform it into an attractive, rich and imaginative play experience for children of all ages to explore, play and be inspired by nature. The playground will be funded using Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) collected from developments nearby, and allocated by your Bunhill ward councillors, Cllr Troy Gallagher, Cllr Phil Graham and Cllr Valerie Bossman-Quarshie.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions:

Where is the funding from?

The project is funded using money collected from developers building nearby, which was allocated by the Bunhill ward councillors.

How was the initial proposal design developed?

Last year, the project team started the process by having some informal conversations with parents, carers and children using the play space. Based on the feedback received, the initial proposal was developed. One of the main concerns raised was that the play space did not cater to a wide range of ages, particularly toddlers and young children. The new designs aim to make the playground more inclusive, by catering to a wider range of age groups, from toddlers to older children.

How will residents benefit from the development of these spaces?

The investment from Community Infrastructure levy (CIL) fund will bring cleaner, more child-friendly spaces, new play equipment and a new wet pour safety surface. It will become an important community space for the residents of St Luke's estate.

Will residents be charged for these works?

The works will be fully funded and therefore the cost of the works will not be recharged to residents and leaseholders.

How is the playground serviced and maintained?

The playground is serviced and maintained under the existing playground maintenance service agreement already in place. There will be no extra charges to residents and leaseholders.
