Islington Greener Together
Islington Council launched Round Two of the Islington Greener Together programme in February 2024, inviting residents, businesses, and community groups—with support from their neighbours—to submit ideas to green publicly accessible spaces in their neighbourhoods. With the support of the council, local people can bring their ideas to life and make their streets greener. One of these streets is Ronalds Road, where local people have told us that they would like to introduce greening on the street outside of the Highbury Roundhouse.
Ronalds Road
The project site is located outside of the Highbury Roundhouse entrance on Ronalds Road, within the Highbury Ward.
Co-design workshop
In May 2025 we held a co-design workshop, which local people could register to attend. During the workshop attendees took part in a design exercise, where they shared their ideas for where and what types of changes they would like to see take place on Ronalds Road.
Feedback period
Once the initial design proposal for Ronalds Road was developed, it was shared online via the project website and made available at the Highbury Roundhouse reception. Local people could provide feedback on the design between Monday 8 September 2025 – Sunday 21 September 2025 through an online survey on the project website or via hard copies available at the Highbury Roundhouse reception .
Additionally, an in-person engagement session was held at the Highbury Roundhouse on Tuesday 16 September 2025, allowing attendees to share their feedback on the design proposals and ask officers questions. The feedback from both the survey and the in-person engagement session was reviewed and considered in the development of the final design.
Ronalds Road final design
The final design for Ronalds Road includes the following:
Two new buildouts with planting beds on either side of the entrance of the Highbury Roundhouse to enhance biodiversity, add climate resilience and contribute to the overall greening of the streetscape.
The planting beds will require the removal of two parking spaces, one on either side of the Highbury Roundhouse entrance, which will be replaced with double yellow lines along the length of the new kerb line and entrance.
Works to deliver the improvements
We have now finalised the schedule of works to deliver the project. Construction works will take place on Ronalds Road from Monday 8 December 2025 and will take up to 10 days.
The traffic management plan during the works will involve the following temporary measures:
Temporary traffic signals will be installed at either end of the site area to manage vehicle flow, with one lane running in one direction alternately.
All parking spaces on Ronalds Road between Arvon Road and Battledean Road will be suspended, as well as a space at the junction of Ronalds Road and Battledean Road.
Pedestrian and vehicle access to the Highbury Roundhouse will remain open during construction works.
We apologise for any inconvenience that the construction works may cause, and we would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation during this time. If you have any queries or questions, please contact us at IGTproject@islington.gov.uk(External link)(External link).
