A westbound contraflow cycle lane is proposed on the section of Lever Street between Ironmonger Row and Bath Street. This is to improve cycle links in the area to contribute to the council’s goals to make cycling more accessible and safer for everyone. A public consultation for the proposals ran from Monday 10 February 2025 to Monday 3 March 2025.

The following plans are proposed to accommodate this scheme:

  • introducing a westbound contraflow cycle lane on the otherwise one-way section of Lever Street between Ironmonger Row and Bath Street
  • converting the single yellow lines to double yellow lines on this section of Lever Street between Ironmonger Row and Bath Street, to signify no waiting at any time. Local people who use the existing single yellow line markings for drop off/pick up may use Ironmonger Row, which is within 20 metres of the area and has a raised table, providing level access back onto Lever Street
  • removing one resident-only parking bay (approximately five parking spaces) on Lever Street, located by the Brittania Pub and Lagonier House
  • converting three existing shared use spaces (currently pay by phone and resident and business permit holder) on Ironmonger Row, south of the electric vehicle bay, to be repurposed to become resident and business permit parking only spaces.

The survey to submit feedback on these proposals closed on Monday March 3 2025. Feedback for these proposals is being reviewed and this page will be updated when there are any further announcements.
