Update

Exciting news! The planning application to transform the Delhi Outram ball court into a landscaped garden space was approved at the Planning Sub-Committee meeting on Monday 7th July 2025.

This means the project can move forward—but there are a few important steps to be completed first. (see next steps)

💰 Funded by Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

Thanks to funding from developer contributions through the Community Infrastructure Levy, the Delhi Outram Estate will be able to transform the sunken ball court into a welcoming, accessible space for everyone.

🗳️ What Residents Said

In Summer 2022, a community survey showed that 85% of respondents wanted the space to become a garden, food-growing area, or other green space.

Working with Octopus Community Network

We’re partnering with Octopus Community, known for creating community gardens around Islington.

They’ll support residents to:

  • Learn gardening and sustainability skills
  • Co-create the new space
  • Run activities for young people and families

Next steps:

There are a few important steps first:

  • Before construction begins, all prior-commencement conditions set out in the planning approval must be completed.
  • Before the space can be used permanently, all prior-occupation conditions must also be met.

Once these conditions are discharged, work can begin, and the new green space will be ready for residents to enjoy!

We will share the final design of the internal layout of the ball-court with all residents suggestions.

The full details of the application can be viewed on the Islington planning web search by using the reference number P2024/3002/FUL
