Cycleway 50: Nag's Head to York Way

Transport for London (TfL) are currently building a new cycleway, named Cycleway 50, between Finsbury Park and Nag’s Head. As part of that scheme, we’re working with TfL to provide new facilities to help and encourage people to walk, cycle and wheel in the area between Nag’s Head and York Way, along Caledonian Road, Penn Road, and Hungerford Road. These changes will form part of the broader Cycleway 50 route, which will run between Finsbury Park and Camden. You can find out more about Cycleway 50 on TfL's website.

We want to make it easier and safer for people of all ages and backgrounds to walk, cycle, and wheel, and to make more space for greening.

We've been listening to you

People had an opportunity to tell us what they thought about some early stage proposals in May and June 2023. You can view more details of the early stage engagement proposals in the Early stage engagement section. We also received comments sent in via email to the project team at: cycleway50@islington.gov.uk.

We have used this feedback to help develop and amend the designs we are presenting now for public consultation.

We have set out how we have addressed some of the most common responses received during the early stage engagement within the details of our proposals. Importantly, whilst we are still proposing improved walking and cycling crossings on Caledonian Road and Hillmarton Road, we are no longer proposing changes to vehicular access arrangements from Hillmarton Road to Hungerford Road, or from Penn Road to Caledonian Road.

How you can get involved

We encourage you to give us your views on our proposals by filling in our survey online, or find out how you can request a paper copy.

To find out more about how you can get involved by attending an event, check out the "Key dates" section of this page.

You can also still use our interactive map to tell us where we could make further improvements in the area such as more trees and greenery, cycle parking, improved lighting and better pavements.

Next steps

After our consultation closes on Sunday 22 October, we will consider all responses received as part of our decision making about how to take the scheme forward. If we decide to proceed as proposed, we would expect to begin implementation by early 2024.
