About the project
Islington Council is committed to making recycling as easy and convenient as possible. We think the current recycling facilities at Blackstock Estate aren’t good enough and do not make it easy for people who live on the estate to recycle as much as possible. Following a number of visits with your local Estate Manager and caretakers, we developed a proposal for improving recycling facilities on the estate that includes:
New fire-resistant bin enclosures for recycling bins. This will help protect the bins from weather, pests and antisocial behaviour while enhancing the appearance of the areas and keeping them neat and tidy. Slightly smaller apertures on recycling enclosures help prevent contamination (e.g. black bags) and make recycling more hygienic by removing the need to touch bin lids.
Increased capacity for residents to be able to recycle a wider range of materials by increased quantity and quality of the recycling bins.
Improved bin locations that are easier for residents to access.
Updated recycling signage with more recycling information for residents.
New accessible recycling bins installed for residents with mobility needs and all age groups.
The location outside Block A, Twyford House, with four recycling bins will remain unchanged.
To enable these enhancements, a small number of parking bays will be reconfigured (see attached proposal for details).
We want to hear from people who live at Blackstock Estate. Please take a few moments to review the Recycling Improvement Proposal for the estate and complete therecycling survey at the bottom of the page.
Your feedback will help us understand your views about recycling, and help us to get these recycling improvement proposals right.
The consultation is open to contributions until 11.59pm onTuesday 30 December 2025.
