Bike hangar consultation

As part of our commitment to make Islington a greener and healthier borough, we are proposing to install new on-street bike hangars across the borough.

Bike hangars are on-street, secure and weather resistant cycle parking storage units for residents, accessed by using a key. They can store up to six cycles inside.

This helps to make travel by bike more convenient, inclusive, and contributes to the council's goals to create a cleaner, greener, healthier borough.

Bike hangars are located on the carriageway in existing parking bays (normally equivalent to one car parking space). No Designated Disabled Bays are repurposed.

Under 'All Location Proposals', you can find a table that outlines all of the proposed bike hangar locations in the borough, including the proposed site number, name, and ward it is located within.

You can view drawings showing the proposed bike hangar locations under 'Drawings', by selecting the ward of the hangar location that you are looking for and selecting the drawing that you wish to see.

Respond to our bike hangar proposals

The council is proposing to implement changes to parking bays on a permanent basis under a Traffic Management Order (TMO), which is subject to a statutory consultation.

You can object to or comment on the TMO for a proposed bike hangar by completing the survey below or in writing by post or email. Please submit your comment by 11.59pm on Friday 31 October 2025.

Once the survey closes, all feedback will be reviewed and considered. This will help inform a decision on whether to install the proposed bike hangars.

What happens next?

Once the consultation has concluded, while it will not be possible to reply to responses individually, all comments will be considered. The council will review all responses received and make a decision whether or not to proceed with implementing the proposals. The decision will be published online.
