Improvements to Bredgar Road, Hargrave Park, and Bickerton Road
Share your views on our proposals to improve the School Streets at Bredgar Road and Hargrave Park and the western part of Bickerton Road by Monday, 9 March 2026.
Our aim is to make the streets safer, healthier, and more welcoming for all. We are proposing changes to:
Make it easier and safer for everyone to walk, wheel, cycle and scoot, particularly for children and families using the school and nursery.
Reduce road danger and encourage slower driving on these streets.
Make the area greener and more attractive by introducing more trees and planting, which will also help to create cooler spaces during summer and help manage flood risk.
Over time we have heard concerns from you about fast traffic on these roads and that more space is needed for people dropping off and picking up children from school and nursery. The proposals we are sharing have been shaped by this feedback from local people.

Proposal 1 - Bredgar Road
Proposed design for Bredgar RoadOn Bredgar Road we propose:
Widening the pavement outside Hargrave Park Primary School and Little Angels Nursery to create more space for parents and carers to drop off, wait for, and pick up children.
Introducing a new informal crossing between the main entrance of Little Angels Nursery and one of the entrances of Hargrave Park Primary School and narrowing the road to shorten the length of the zebra crossing to make it safer to cross the road.
Making the area greener and more attractive with new planting beds and more trees, which will also reduce flood risk and create more shade in the summer.
Enabling space for these changes by removing up to 7 parking spaces and relocating one dedicated disabled parking bay from the south side to the north side of the road.

Making the area greener and more attractive with new planting beds and more trees, which will also reduce flood risk and create more shade in the summer.
Narrowing the junction with Dartmouth Park Hill to slow traffic entering Hargrave Park.
